Making cards

Recently, I was lucky enough to purchase the Cricut cutting machine from Costco. So, I turned some of my illustrations into pop-up DIY Valentine’s cards.

The base for each card was this vintage inspired heart pattern.

The inner heart (the part cut out) was used as the base for what each animal was holding.

First I had the Cricut machine work it's magic and make vintage hearts out of card stock. Then, glued the larger heart onto a double folded piece of cardstock.

Cut strips of a folder, and folded to create the "pop-up" feature for each animal.

I glued the pop-up and then attached whatever animal I was working on.

Each design required cutting (with Cricut) and gluing into place with the corresponding inner heart.

For example, here is how I made the Narwhal design.

Each animal was unique in it's coloring and look because these are handmade (imperfections welcome) and I had limited supplies to play with colors.

After assembly, and mounting on cards - I cut out the lettering with some vinyl.

At first I tried with cardstock, but lord was that tedious trying to transfer and glue each individual letter - so permanent vinyl it was.

Call me biased, but I think these are cute.
